Indra Petersons is a Los Angeles native. Her passion for weather started at a very young age. She was determined to spend her life educating others about the amazing nature and dangers of the weather. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric Physics as well as minors in math, physics and business.
Her TV career began at KVIA in El Paso, Texas, where she was both an on-air meteorologist as well as a reporter. She then worked for KEYT in Santa Barbara as an on-air meteorologist. In 2004, she joined ABC7 in Los Angeles, California as a weather producer to Dallas Raines but shortly after joined KABC as an Eyewitness News meteorologist and general assignment reporter.
Indra Petersons is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist, an elite designation for individuals who have undergone rigorous examination by the American Meteorological Society. Meteorologists with this seal have passed a stringent written exam testing their understanding of weather and forecasting. Their on-air work is also reviewed by a team of AMS experts who rate their ability to communicate critical weather information to their audience.
Indra is a professional member of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) as well as the National Weather Association (NWA). In 2011, Indra was voted by the public as the best meteorologist on the Los Angeles Hotlist.
In the spring, work permitting, you can find her chasing storms in tornado alley.
Indra also enjoys traveling the world. She feels as though there is so much to be learned from all the different cultures and people she comes in contact with. Indra’s heritage is Latvian. She speaks fluent Latvian and spent her childhood learning about the country’s unique history including their native folksongs and dances. Yes, she can polka dance. Although Indra is a common Latvian name, she later learned that her name coincidentally is also the name of the Hindu warrior Indra: god of weather, sky, rain and thunder. Be careful what you name your kids! Indra also loves to snowboard and retreats to the local mountains as much as possible.
